| New to MCPS here--do a lot of parents pull their kids out to travel early for Thanksgiving, since Monday and Tuesday are only half-days? |
| My 9th grader will not be in school next week |
| My 11th grader will be in school next week. |
| My kids (9th and 11th) will be in school and I will be teaching (elementary) |
|
My kindergartener will be in school next week.
We usually travel the whole week but didn't want to miss school. |
For Kindergarten??? |
| What do you expect? They're half-days, so most teachers are just showing movies. |
| Mine will be in Monday but out on Tuesday |
| My 9th grader has an AP Gov test on Monday. If she's got nothing of note on Tuesday, she can stay home if she wants. |
That was my thinking. The last time we sent our kids in on half-days to be conscientious, they said they watched movies all day. Does it count as 1 day of absence or two days of absence if they miss Monday and Tuesday? |
2 days |

Yes, it's a vicious cycle. A bunch of kids skip school those days, so teachers learn to not cover anything. Other parents learn of this from one year to another, and so keep their kids out of school, also. So the teachers cover even less the next year. We're now at year one-million of the process and few teachers cover anything at all (that's why, I think, they scheduled half-days for those days).
I had my kids double check before we finalized plans. 3 of 7 teachers will have subs. And her hard classes (math/science) will be doing review problems (frankly, this is quite useful for the kids so kudos to those teachers). |
No movies are being shown, unless your teacher can string together multiple devices. Jack Smith blocked Amazon. |
VHS cart? |
| Our kids watched Its the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown for Halloween. I suspect they will show the Thanksgiving one next week. |
