I could not find enough information about the LCPS gifted program on the website. I would appreciate it if someone could provide me with the answer if they know about it.
So far I understood: 1. Students will take the CogAT test in 2nd grade, and their gifted assessment results will be available in 3rd grade. 2. Parents can complete the gifted evaluation form in 4th and 5th grades if their child was not accepted. Evaluations will be based on the student’s portfolio and MAP testing results. Here are my questions: 1. Once a child is selected for the gifted program in 3rd grade, will they remain in the program throughout middle and high school? 2. How often is the CogAT exam administered? 3. What is in the portfolio test/exam in the reevaluation process? Thank You |
Cogat scores from 2nd grade, 3rd grade winter MAP scores, and third grade portfolio will be used to determine gifted qualification. Services start in 4th. If they qualify for Fusion they will then automatically move on to spectrum in middle school. If they did not qualify for fusion, but only dci I believe they have to be reevaluated for middle school. If they did not qualify in 3rd I think they can be reevaluated one calendar year later. They won’t be administered cogat. Cogat is in 2nd grade only (unless they didn’t take it then). The portfolio is made up from activities from gifted resource teacher.
A lot of people don’t realize that you can request a DCI plan for students in k-3 They will be evaluated younger and given additional activities. This is not an automatic qualification though for 4th grade gifted services. |
