I currently pay $75 for Verizon internet and phone and the phone doesn't work. They are asking me to pay $200 just to have someone come out and look at the unworking phone. What options do I have in the northern Virginia suburbs to get a new provider? I hate working with Verizon on most things. |
Do you really need a land line? |
Could you be more specific about how the phone doesn’t work? One phone or multiple phones? Type of phone(s)? Did the phone(s) ever work? When did the phone(s) stop working? |
If the internet works, drop the phone service, and if you really need a home phone get an ooma phone. You just connect it to the internet and it works just like a regular phone. You can even keep your phone number if you want to. My ooma costs about $5/month. |
In which way does the phone not work ? Is there dial tone at the FIOS box ? Is there dial tone elsewhere in the house ? |
This. Test with a phone at the service entrance (demarc location). If that works, then you have an inside wiring problem, which is going to cost you money to fix, regardless of the provider. If not, then Verizon should come out and fix it without charge, since the issue is with their equipment. Verizon customer service is horrible, but this may not be their problem to fix. |
+1 This happened to us. The point where your phone line enters the house may not be in the spot you think. Ours was in our upstairs master bedroom. That line was inadvertently cut and caused our phone to go out. Repairing that fixed everything. That was several years ago and it cost about $150. Verizon can do it but it’s not their responsibility. |
