How about the office people, the bosses of principals? Is this public information? If so, I'm wondering where the info can be found. |
Well, here's the salary schedule for teachers for FY2011. They are listed in the middle under the MCEA union. Any salary of any and every government employee is public information. You can get more detailed information by filing a Maryland Public Information Act request (like federal Freedom of Information Act) with the County School System. They can charge reasonable costs for copying papers and possibly staff time, but I'm not sure about that.
http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/uploadedFiles/departments/ersc/employees/pay/schedules/salary_schedule_fy11.pdf I'm sure this information has been listed in various newspaper articles over the years. Just as Jerry Weast's salary and retirement benefits have. Here's one from 5 years ago: http://www.gazette.net/specialfeatures/salaries/top500education.html |
In MCPS, the "office people" come in two categories: 12-month employees (teachers who make a bit more but who are still at teacher level) and those in admin. positions (coordinators, directors, supervisors and associate superintendents). Anyone in an administrative position MUST have an admin. degree/certification. Community superintendents are the "bosses of principals" in their assigned clusters.
Why do you care?

Why do you care?
Aren't people allowed to be interested in what government employees are paid? |
for what purpose?
so that you can complain that your tax dollars aren't being used wisely? What will you do when you discover that an associate superintendent in MCPS is making six figures? complain to the BOE? write in to the Post? again - FOR WHAT PURPOSE?????
Aren't people allowed to be interested in what government employees are paid? |
You obviously need some sort of medication. |
NP here - I would only be interested because I feel teachers are underpaid. I have 2 sisters who teach (not in the area) and I am appalled at how little they make. They are committed to their jobs and are AWESOME (okay, I may be biased). As smart as they are they could make a lot more money if they chose a different career. |
I am a MCPS teacher- in Bethesda. I make 55K a year but only work part time. I love my job and would never make a career change to make more money.
It would have been nice to get either the cost of living or pau grade increase this year, but hey, I don't teach for the money- obviously! |
Do you mind telling how many hours/week you work? And are you a 10 or 12 month employee? I teach part-time at an "elite" private school and I only make $30K. Maybe I should switch. |
I work part-time 24 hours a week (.6) and make $47k, plus benefits. |
HS, MS, or ES? What is your subject? |
Thinking about a career change and becoming a science teacher. Have BS and MS in science. Not certified, no teaching experience. About how much could I expect to make teaching middle school? High school? Thank you for any input. |
I am a 5th year MCPS teacher with a masters degree. I make 58,000 as a full-time teacher. |
You would need to become certified before any public school would hire you. You might want to look into a program for people switching careers. |
That is not true. I know someone who taught science at BCC without a certificate. There is some lesser county certification you can get while teaching. There is a need for math abs science teachers. |
