Infertility Support and Discussion
Hi everyone ... I'm seeing posts in different forums about finding a good doctor (OB/Gyn). I'm wondering, is it pretty common that women sometimes have had to switch to a new doctor/practice, because of dissatisfaction with the care received? I've had to, and I imagine I can't be the only one. BUT, it's tiring (and costly -- new co-payments, etc) to have to. I'm hoping reading reviews and getting good recommendations can help to find a good match the first time...
(Sorry, typo in title! "Finding ...")
My emplyer switched our plan and thus I had to switch. Turns out it was good thing. It's a pain, but the new clinic has succeeded 1st try using slightly different methods and the old clinic failed in 3 tries.
I have fired (oops, I mean switched!) my OB and a RE for dissatisfaction with care received. Honestly, I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much happier with my current care. I even switched REs again not for dissatisfaction for care received (in fact, I am very sad to leave my current practice and RE!), but my issues warrant a different approach as I approach the end of my ttc road. I have never looked back after switching docs, but have rather felt re-affirmed (even with the hassles of switching) about the decision given the quality of care I now receive. And, I think my perspective on and level of participation in my treatment have changed over time, which has resulted in my satisfaction and also my perception on the level of care I receive. Funny enough, my OB gets some bad reviews on DCUM for his personality and my RE doesn't seem to have much of a fan club, but I somehow have clicked with them both and have received excellent care.
PP here - Forgot to say that RE doesn't have much of a fan club for his personality, but he does produce excellent results. OB also is an excellent doc, but doesn't win patients over with his bedside manner (or lack thereof).
hi PPs, great to hear that your experiences of having switched worked out for you ... I'm totally on that page of going for something better if the first (or second ... hopefully not more!) doctors/practices weren't suitable. It's just tiring, as you both must know .... So, you first need to secure an appointment (may take several weeks, maybe a couple of months); then, filling out the preparatory paperwork; then co-payment; seeing the doc, etc etc etc ... Anyway, goal is to hopefully move on to a better situation ...
It never hurts to look around. While I was pregnant, I wasn't very happy with my large OB practice and made an appointment with a smaller practice to consider switching. I ended up staying with the larger practice. It's far from perfect, but seeing the grass on the other side of the fence made me appreciate the positive aspects of the practice.
