My third grade son has dyslexia. It is not severe and therefore, he can still thrive in a mainstream classroom with the right support. This includes small class sizes and a strong phonics based literacy program.
We already have an Orton Gillingham tutor after school but have no been successful in getting literacy intervention through MCPS. I’m in search of a private school that might be a good fit for us. We are looking for a supportive, not overly competitive environment. Thank you for any suggestions. |
| Try CES. Their teachers are specifically trained on Orton Gillingham and we have some children with dyslexia enrolled. |
| Norwood. My kid is dyslexic and is doing great. |
To each their own. We left Norwood because they didn’t know how to deal with our kid’s dyslexia. |
Jewish day school? |
| Most Catholic schools focus early reading on the principles of phonics. |
| I would strongly recommend a school like Siena for a couple years for mild/moderate dyslexia that builds OG-based services into a daily reading class. The entire curriculum supports these students’ strengths and teaches self-advocacy. |
I’m sorry to hear that. |
| Mercy is the school for this. |
