Strong Literacy/Phonics

Anonymous
My third grade son has dyslexia. It is not severe and therefore, he can still thrive in a mainstream classroom with the right support. This includes small class sizes and a strong phonics based literacy program.

We already have an Orton Gillingham tutor after school but have no been successful in getting literacy intervention through MCPS.

I’m in search of a private school that might be a good fit for us. We are looking for a supportive, not overly competitive environment. Thank you for any suggestions.

Try CES. Their teachers are specifically trained on Orton Gillingham and we have some children with dyslexia enrolled.

Norwood. My kid is dyslexic and is doing great.

To each their own. We left Norwood because they didn’t know how to deal with our kid’s dyslexia.

Most Catholic schools focus early reading on the principles of phonics.

I would strongly recommend a school like Siena for a couple years for mild/moderate dyslexia that builds OG-based services into a daily reading class. The entire curriculum supports these students’ strengths and teaches self-advocacy.

I’m sorry to hear that.
