Federal Health Benefits - Open Season

What am I missing?

CareFirst BlueChoice (Blue Value Plus) is less expensive but better than CareFirst BlueChoice (Standard).

Also, it's better than Blue Cross/Blue Shield Service Benefit Plan (Standard) and less expensive.

Am I missing something?

Which plan do you like and why?

Are you ok with a plan that has no out of network coverage?

LOl, so that is what I missed.

What about FSBP? I keep hearing how it’s the best kept secret within the government arena - that is, if you are eligible. I have BCBS and haven’t had too many issues.

FSBP - how is it?

Unless you need mental health coverage you could consider it. The vast majority of other medical professionals in this area are in network.

lol that’s a pretty big one to miss. Are you new? Join Reddit fednews or other forums that help with differentiating and picking the option best suited for you.

In this area is also an important caveat - only you know your lifestyle, etc.

Unobtainable for most of us.

We have it as an overseas DoD family. Everything overseas is considered in network, but you pay up front and get reimbursed. Domestically, Aetna is the provider.

It is GREAT. I pay WAY less than I did for BCBS and it covers things like therapy more generously. HIGHLY recommend and was quite anxious about switching. BCBS has gotten CRAZY expensive lately.

You would be surprised and should check if it is on your list. I do not work at state and do not work abroad and have it (regular DHS domestic agency employee)

I attended a webinar last year with an FEHB rep. She said that the premiums are driven by usage rates. That's why you can have popular programs be way more expensive than a similar less popular program. Then everyone switching to the other and in a few years, it gets to be the popular one. So you have to shop every year for the best plan for you.

You are all sleeping on CDHPs. Those are the best deal for pretty much everyone.

Apparently my family is eligible for FSHB also. We currently have GEHA Standard.

Can anybody compare the two? It doesn't look like FSHB is that much better than GEHA Standard, but I could easily be misunderstanding.
