Contact lens and glasses

Anonymous
Not sure if this is the correct forum to post in. I finally moved away from my optometrist (they tried to bully you into only buying contact lens and new glasses from them every year) to an ophthalmologist.

Ophthalmologist doesn't care where you order contact lens and glasses from, just provides the prescriptions. I can buy both from the ophthalmologist, but wanted to check out a few other options.

Thinking of lenscrafters maybe for glasses. They lens are progressive, so not sure? Or do you use independent shops?

Also, where do you purchase contact lens that you would recommend?

Thanks!

Google contact lens places. I used to buy my contacts online at places that ended up being significantly cheaper than Costco. Recently they were roughly the same price.

Most of the online stores add a significant processing fee so the initial great price you see is never as great as it looks. I usually spend an hour our two going to different sites, entering my info and seeing what the final cost is.

I've used several different companies over the years and always vet them via trust pilot. I've never had a problem with any of the companies I used online.

Some people love Warby Parker for glasses but I don't feel comfortable buying frames unless I see them on me. One of my kids had frames they liked and I did order the frames online and let Costco replace the lenses.

That’s exactly what warby Parker markets to - they send a sample of glasses to try on first. There is also a store in Crown (gaithersburg) and I’m sure more around.

Try Costco for both.

1800 contacts for contacts.

Costco for contacts and Warby Parker for glasses. I select 5 frames for their try on at home option then pick one and order it. They give you the box and the label to mail back the samples.

I have been going to the Costco optometrist for years. They give me a prescription for both glasses and contacts so I can order from wherever I like, but I get them at Costco.

I buy my contact lenses from the company that has the best price at the time. As others have suggested, google the brand to get prices. And you need to factor in fees and shipping to be able to compare total price. .

My optical glasses are by Gucci.
I take the prescription from Ophthalmologist -- and have Walmart (yep of all places) add them to those Gucci lens for $65 .. Simple.

Good Luck!

There are tons of places, but honestly they won't be much cheaper than your optometrist sells them for, unless you just had a scammer.

Lenscrafters is pricy. You can get the same frames elsewhere.

For my kid's first glasses, which were wire rim Ray Bans, we walked from the outlot Lenscrafters to Sears in the mall and got the same glasses for $75 less.

I disagree. Glasses have a HUGE markup and price difference.
