DD (Junior) is applying to a residential gov school program. She thinks her application is pretty strong. But since decisions don’t come out until mid-April, this kind of closes the door to other programs that have earlier decision dates. Has anybody dealt with this? How did you get around it if gov school was your child’s first choice? Not sure how to line something else up as a backup with a date this late.
You have a backup that you cancel if governors school is first choice. That’s what we did.
DC applied to multiple other summer programs that didn’t overlap to have backups. It ended up being a very very busy summer, but it took the stress off knowing Gov school wasn’t the only thing they’d applied for. The experience was amazing though, so worth the complicated planning and late acceptance timing.

I think sometime in January or February the kids find out if you’ve been nominated by the county. That should give you some indication if you passed the next round. There should be some data that your county has on how many were nominated and selected for each of the program.
Forgot to mention, first the kid needs to be nominated by the kids school. Then the county. Then the state decides.
The timing sucked for this because most other camps were already closed by the time the govschool results come out..our backup plan was 2nd session CTY with late registration.
It’s definitely a bad schedule - so late for notification.
