Here's the needle I'm trying to thread. I think an Apple Homepod Mini is my best bet, but I don't have one so I'm not sure.
Looking for: 1) Good for use by elementary-aged kids in their bedrooms 2) Streams Apple Music 3) Doesn't need to be tethered to an iPhone/iPad in the same room. In other words, it can play music if the device is in another room assuming it was already paired. 4) Can turn OFF Siri/other voice prompts for random internet searches or other uses. Ok to use Siri/voice prompts to request a song, but I don't want my kids randomly doing voice internet searches when they should be in bed. As a side note, would Siri "obey" the internet restrictions that are placed on the iPad that the speaker is paired to? Apple Homepod Mini? Some other device? It's #4 that I'm not sure it allows. I'm basically just looking for a way for my kids to be able to stream music in their rooms without having to do it from a computer or iPad, and we use Apple Music so it has to be a device that allows that. THANKS! |

How about some speakers from Goodwill, and a $25 amp from Amazon with blue tooth ability that is linked to your iphone.
And attach an old DVD player and play CDs from the thrift store. |
Do you think this is a reasonable answer to the OP's question? |
No, but she wants a way to limit the high tech listening features of a smart speaker, so why not go full on low tech? We have two smart speakers that are unplugged and gathering dust. |
