Saw discussion on IB English: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1232516.page
Is there a thread about IB Math? What is IB Math? Is it more like Pre-calc? AP Calc AB? AP Calc BC? AP Statistics? Mix of the above courses or none of the above? Do non-IB diploma students take IB Math or is it designed for IB DP students? |

Mathematics: applications and interpretation SL
Mathematics: applications and interpretation HL Mathematics: analysis and approaches SL Mathematics: analysis and approaches HL Based on the description below, seems like Math: Analysis and Approaches is more math-y Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, Standard Level, is a rigorous course combining both pure and applied mathematics, although with more emphasis on pure mathematics than the Applications and Interpretation course. The Analysis and Approaches SL course does not contain the breadth nor depth of HL, but is nevertheless a demanding course that requires strong conceptual understanding, algebraic manipulation, and confidence with analytical approaches to problem solving. It is an excellent foundation for students looking to pursue further study of mathematics or science and keeps many options open for a variety of university courses. |
None IB students take AP classes, not IB. You can take IB, but its not equal. |
At our school the first year of IB math HL is AP calculus BC. |
| At schools that have IB Math, it's a mix of Calc AB and Statistics. |
Mine took SL Analysis last year, and reports that this year AP Stats has been largely a repeat or slight extension of last year. They also did a fair bit of calculus in SL Analysis. The thing about IB math is that it’s not necessarily less rigorous than AP, but it doesn’t really follow the typical college-prep math sequences in US schools. It’s like they slice the pie differently. And then make you write about it. |

I found a textbook here:
