World Language Exam

Anonymous
Is anyone's child taking the new World Language Exam this year? I'm glad that it's computerized rather than on paper.
If so, is your child's testing during the school day at school or elsewhere after school? Do they have a time limit? Ours will be during the school day.

Thanks in advance!

All middle and high schools were asked to have students take the assessment during the school day. It should be an untimed assessment (just needs to completed within the school day).

Do you know if you can receive the same accommodations as their IEP? For example, voice to text?

What is the World Languages Credit By Exam?
It is an exam that assesses linguistic proficiency in languages other than English. Linguistic proficiency is the ability to use language in real world situations in a spontaneous interaction, non-rehearsed context, and in a manner acceptable and appropriate to native speakers of the language.

Exam Benefits
World Languages Credits: Students who take this exam may earn up to three world languages credits for the language of the exam.
Diplomas: The credits may fulfill the world languages requirements for the Advanced Studies Diploma (below).
Diploma Seal: Students may also meet the world languages criteria for the Virginia Department of Education's Seal of Biliteracy (below).

It’s for students who have written and oral proficiency in another language already - typically students who speak another language at home and also have had some education in that language to the point they can write at the paragraph level as well.

Yes, if a student demonstrate proficiency equivalent to at least 2 credits on the exam, it satisfies the high school graduation requirement, and they won’t need to enroll in a world language course. If student wants and school offers the language in which they tested, then they can enroll in the follow-on credit level world language course, to attain more credits.

The PALS for Spanish immersion is being piloted in some but not all schools that offer Spanish immersion.
