| What would you consider a good price for flights for the July-August to go to Australia? Figure economy class, with one stop in LAX or DFW. How much have folks generally paid? |
|
It depends on when Australian school holidays are. There might be periods within your time frame that are sale blackout dates.
Try to look up the school calendar. |
| Hard to say. Much more expensive than pre-pandemic. Think generally cheaper if you go via Canada these days. |

That is their winter so I think flights will be reasonable in economy. Likely 800$?
Ive been for Christmas ( their summer) and its $$$ and I’ll go in Feb/ March end of their summer. My dc now lives there. From SF/ LA should be about above price I mentioned. We no longer want to go economy and it’s expensive! |

From here, you have to add on the IAD to Lax/SFO flights.
$800 from SFO would be a bargain basement best sale scenario. From DC, I've typically paid $1400 to $2400 return. |
| Under $1,000 to Sydney |
| Google Flights has prices in July from DC for around $1100. That seems pretty good. |
| I’d be sceptical about what you see on google flights. It has shown $880 fares on American Airlines for the last couple of weeks, but these are actually mysteriously unbookable on the AA website. You might be hard pressed to find anything under $1500 if booking now. More likely to be successful in August as all states’ public schools holidays are in July. |
| Just got it for $850 out of Philly for April 2025. We will drive up there from DC |
OP here. This is exactly what I was looking at and running into. I tried to book the flight for $808 last night and today, and the AA website lets me add the flights but once I go to try to pay for them, they aren't bookable and it says the fares aren't available. |
This has been happening for a couple of weeks and they haven’t done anything about it. A friend called AA and didn’t get anywhere. I suggested they called again and insist on speaking to a manager, but don’t know if that would help. |
That’s a great price! Which airline? |
|
$500 RT last summer
look for sales around now |
|
$500 RT last summer
look for sales around now getting to Oz is relatively affordable but flying within the continent is expensive, that's how they get you! |
Which airline and airport? |
