How long before they start to fire us for being gay?
Don’t say I’m catastrophizing. The Speaker’s whole career has been aimed at this. Now he has support. |
You’re still protected by the 14th amendment. The pendulum will swing to the other direction before a restrictive interpretation can be litigated in front of SCOTUS. |
That doesn’t exactly help. What about the missed Paychecks between termination and a decision. OP, I do think all protections are off the table and we are headed back to the closet. Depending on how things go, we’ll be lucky to be able to keep one foot out. I came out in 1980 and I can tell you, it wasn’t a pretty time. |
Roe was overturned, why wouldn't Bostock be? |
Because it’s not as controversial. |
… yes, yes it is. |
Queer people shouldn’t be allowed to work isn’t a popular belief. |
queer people should be able to be fired from certain jobs for being gay IS ABSOLUTELY a popular belief. They don't want us teaching their children, for example. Not sure about feds. |
My work identity is not structured around my being gay.
At most, I’ll femme it up a little if I have to go into the office. Pendulums swing, cultures shift, but there’s no way I see it going back to how it was in the 90s and before. |
What does that mean? Do you not mention your family or your weekend plans? |
What does that have to do with whether or not it's legal to fire you for being gay? Are you saying it's our fault if we're TOO gay at work? |
It means I don’t put pronouns in my signature, and my job as about getting the mission done and not DEI or whatever related. My coworkers know I’m gay. I don’t think I’m at risk of being fired for being gay. I think gay people whose jobs are somewhat wrapped up in their identity may be at risk of losing their jobs, because those jobs may disappear. |
Why would Trump have appointed Bessent (out married gay male) to the incredibly powerful position of Treasury Secretary if he wanted to fire gay employees? Or appointed an out gay male as head of the Federal Trade Commission? Or brought back Richard Grendel to a prominent foreign policy role?
If you’re really in trouble you can always reach out to Peter Thiel who is gay |
They’ll probably only try to fire trans people and maybe not even them.
They’re definitely going to try to have Obergefell overturned. We are already hearing about red states pushing for it. And they were saying the Respect for Marriage Act was unnecessary. Any time Republicans say something isn’t needed because the courts protected it already, you know they’re lying. All they do is lie. |
I think if you keep it to yourself you're unlikely to have any issues. No need to rub people's faces in it. |
