Just what the question says.
My kid is new to travel soccer this year and is having a good season (knock on wood)--good coaches, nice kids, reasonable amount of playing time, etc. But from what I can tell from this forum and the scuttlebutt from other parents of kids on his team, the teams (and coaches) change from year to year. So I'm just wondering, do you have your kid try out each year for other teams just in case? Do you usually know whether your child is going to be asked to come back to the same team before tryouts happen? Or after? Thanks. |
| We've been on the top team and never felt the need to try out. We've been happy with the team and the coach. |
| Depends on the club, we were all told to re-tryout each year at both our clubs. 90% of the time kids will end up on the same team they were on. Some kids will get promoted and demoted. The same coach returns to our teams about half the time. |

My child has only gone to tryouts when she hasn't been happy with current team or coach. Tryouts are always surprising- because you see players you know and the club you like the best might not be the one you expected.
In our experience- we have always known current team placement before gonig to tryouts. |
| Always have a backup plan and it never hurts to see what else is out there. Coaches and players change every year so a great team now might not be next year |
| We went to try out. Our coach found out and was bitter about it. We left the team and the club, and it was the best thing. |
| With clubs folding, clubs merging---yes--and it hasn't been by choice. Just too much change year to year. |
