I had no idea. I knew it wasn't easy by any means, but kids with 35 ACT and 4.5 didn't get in!? I'm so stressed about my DC and wondering where she will land. We were hoping UTK, Clemson, FSU and SC would be likely. She has 34 superscore and 4.61 weighted MCPS. But Clemson seems obsessed w rank and we don't rank. And they're not into essays and hers is good.
Her major is business. She also made some minor "errors" on her app by submitted AP scores of 3 and 4 but oh well. |
| Guess I have been living under a rock. I was focused on UGA UF UMD being the hard ones. |
| Business is a tough admit at Clemson. Not uncommon for kids to be deferred EA and then admitted RD |
Clemson has had an overall admission rate of 35 percent in recent years, Ms it is significantly easier admit for instate. |
| When I was applying to colleges, Clemson was the OOS landing spot for popular, outgoing, UMC kids who were slightly above average academically. |
Shoot maybe she should Change it if she can? They did ask for a second choice major and she put communications. |
| You need to calm down the hysteria OP. It's more competitive these days but your kid has really good stats. |
Meant to ask- what's an "easier" major? |
|
Reaches.
Matches. Safeties. It's not too hard, esp. with those stats. |
| You should add a safety such as Auburn and UGA should be on the list since their review is more holistic. |
UGA is basically her top choice |

Last year: DS, white, FCPS, not first gen college student.
Applied to Clemson business school, 4.1W gpa and 1380 SAT. 710 m, 670V Varsity athlete 4 years and captain Deferred and then waitlisted. Luckily accepted at 5 other schools but this one was typical of what I was hearing for popular D1 large SEC ACC and Big 10 or state schools. |
| Uh... I would NOT send a girl from the DC area to Clemson. They boast being one of the most conservative schools in the country. |
| Other schools that accepted DS: Indiana (Kelly direct admit) U S Carolina capstone scholar w merit, Pitt (no merit), Jmu, William and Mary spring admit. |
As long as they can handle sorority life, I would send them there. They’re not that conservative, any SEc or large college campus in the south is not that conservative. |
