what age for pop warner?

My 9 year old wants to play. We would like to wait until 7th. Any advice on the right age to start? I hope football isn’t his sport he wants to pursue.

I feel for you OP - last thing we wanted was for our DC to play football. My extended friend circle in NOVA all shared this sentiment, and find it mind boggling that there are parents who still encourage their kids into this sport. We exposed him to other cultural pursuits and more civil sports

9 is about the age that a lot of kids start.

My kids have done soccer, basketball, wrestling, flag football, and football. I saw the worst injuries in soccer since the kids are looking at the ball and running into each other. Football players know they're going to get hit and kind of understand that they need to protect themselves.

9 year old kids don't really hit hard enough for him to get injured.

7th grade is a fine time to wait to but he may be scared by that point because of the skill gap that will exist unless he is very athletic.
