Chris Wallace is quitting CNN after three years as one of its biggest stars, he exclusively told the Daily Beast Monday.
The 77-year-old broadcaster said he will instead find a new home on an independent platform such as streaming or podcasting, which he described as “where the action seems to be.” He highlighted how podcasters including Joe Rogan and Charlamagne tha God had set the agenda during the presidential election, but added, “I don’t flatter myself to think I will have that sort of reach.” The stunning decision by Wallace to walk away from CNN at the end of his three-year, seven-figure contract, rather than to renegotiate it, is a watershed moment for cable TV. It comes as other anchors face being fired or having salaries cut as declining ratings and cord-cutting hit the industry’s bottom line. https://www.thedailybeast.com/broadcaster-chris-wallace-quits-cnn-to-build-future-in-streaming-or-podcasting/ Legacy media is reeling. |
Uh I’m sure it wasn’t entirely his choice. Likely a HUGE pay cut was proposed
At his age? Is this a retirement job for him? I hope so, it's good to keep your hand in but it's also time to slow down and focus on family and friends.
And? Things change. Nothing stays the same. When I was younger. There were 3 channels on TV and they all had more or less the same news and broadcast at the same time every night. Now we can watch news 24/7. And somewheres, I think this country was better off when we all shared the same set of facts without any partisan spin.
Isn’t this take two for him on the internet?
WE need Left leaning podcasters to compete with the nutso right
Good for him though I agree with the post above that at 77 it's time to retire. I enjoyed watching him on Fox News Sunday and always thought he was the most even handed interviewer with questions and fact checking on the spot.
I will always remember him for that deer-in-the-headlights performance as moderator of the trainwreck Trump-Biden debate in 2020. He deserved better.
He's 77. I don't think it's much of a loss. He should have been gone years ago.
Almost old enough to run for President. Maybe in 2028. |
Adios dweeb 🥱
What a sad day for mass media news. No matter what you think of network news, his Saturday morning show, an homage to the late and brilliant John McLaughlin, was a badly needed rather balanced addition to the national media pundit dialogue. Sorry to see you go, Chris. I was always a huge fan of your father.
He’s such a loser.
How hilarious is it to be 77 years old and still and will always be known as a nepo baby.
Good lord, these old nepo babies need to just fade away. Go play some golf and enjoy your grandkids. At least 75yo O'Reilly was a bonafide prime time star and best selling author. Nobody is searching for the 77yo Chris Wallace podcast or streaming show. He's always been a snoozefest.
