| My girls like their sports but neither of them wants to play club sports. I want them to stay active through high school but the rec teams for high school girls are like 9-12 and I don't think are very competitive which means maybe they won't be as fun? How do your high school girls stay fit? |
| I see lots of teen girls working out and lifting at the ymca. It’s good to be in the habit of going daily or almost every day. |
| Cycling, dancing, running… |
| At least where I live, rec sports exist in high school. They’re not competitive but it’s still exercise and social. Soccer, softball, basketball for sure. |
| Rec fool |
+1 to rec sports existing. Also to a lot of girls continuing dance, as mentioned above. |
In the rec league my kids play in, we end up getting a lot of girls who join us just for the high school division because we are one of the larger and more competitive leagues in the area. Girls leave their existing league and come join us, or they join us because they just started the sport by making their JV team and they want to get better. This past fall our high school division was one of the biggest age divisions in the league. |
| My daughter asked for a gym membership for her birthday. She goes almost every day and lifts. |
| Gym membership, or one of the various fitness places for young people. |
Agree with pp — especially if you join a rec league in that sport’s offseason (softball in the fall), you will find a lot of high schoolers.

| Mine likes orange theory |
| Track and cross country. |
Dancers in top programs are there six days a week about 25 hours per week. Sports teams aren’t alway the best or desirable way to stay active. |

I just don't see the rec teams are offering a very good option for fitness or fun. I wish it were different, but it's sort of not.
A lot of girls go to the gym to work out and use the treadmill or elliptical. We belong to the Y as family members so it's not that expensive. Karate is also a great way for teen girls to stay in shape -- it's very cardio intensive, they really work on flexibility, you can usually pick which days you go and times, and its a life-long sport that is easy to continue in college and beyond. My son likes to bike, but for some reason my daughters don't get that into it. But it's a good way to stay in shape. I sort of wish there were more fun dance/aerobic type classes aimed at teens. I did a lot of that when I was a teenager and in college and it was really fun. It seems like all the dance classes are more for girls who are good at dance, and not just for kids that want to goof off and get some exercise. Places should run "just for fun" dance classes using stuff like Taylor Swift, Chappelle Roan, Gracie Abrams, etc. A decade or so ago "Just Dance" was really popular among teens and that was great exercise -- unfortunately, it seems like it has fallen out of favor. |
| Horseback riding during the school year, and swimming in summer. |
