What are the class sizes like this year at Wood Acres?

Anonymous
Specifically I'm thinking about K and the early grades, but I'm happy to hear from anyone. Thanks

In K this year there are only 21 kids in 5 classes. There are 27 kids in 5 classes in first grade. Last year there were 25/26 kids per K class. I'm not quite sure why the number is lower this year but it's great! We've been overall very happy with Woodacres. Nice community of parents and children.

We are considering Wood Acres, but I wish I had a better sense for what the class sizes end up being. There is a big spread between 21-27 kids a class, and I'd be happy with 21, but not so much with 27. Any other info as to the other grades- ie: 2nd or 3rd? Thanks

Class size in any grade at any school really is a luck of the draw kind of thing and not a function of which school you choose (unless its private). Any public school could have a class size of 21 one year and 28 the next. Especially if you are looking at K...its impossible to know what the incoming class is going to be.

Do all 5 classes have lunch and recess together? That seems like it would be overwhelming.

I believe they do-- at least that is what I recall from the tour.

Each grade has its own lunch and recess periods.

I am not sure that's exactly accurate re: recess - I think some of the classes overlap on the playground. I recall from my tour that the 1st and 5th grades had recess overlap - which seems really undesireable, in my opinion. That may not be true any more but I am 99% sure that was accurate as of this spring.

Each grade has its own recess time now, but for 1st grade that's 135 kids out on the playground all at the same time. That seems pretty overwhelming to me.

I have a first grader and can confirm that the grades all have seperate lunches/recess this year. I have volunteered for lunch/recess duty a couple of times this year and the number of kids is actually not that bad since they can play on both the upper and lower black top and the field. I was also concerned about the number of kids but it actually goes a lot better than I thought it would!
