AAA free household member?

Anonymous
I have AAA and I could have sworn that you needed to pay to have more than one member. Both cars in the household are in my name so I never worried about it. Now on the AAA website I see an option to add another household member for free. The family member is an adult and I want to make sure they are covered when alone driving a car that I own. I am just wondering if this is legit free or if it's temporary and they're going to autorenew me next year at a higher rate because of the additional member or some other catch. Thanks.

Temp free...it's an attempt to make some new sales. It does not matter whose name the car is in
It works for the person whose name is on the card only. If your husband is not covered..he can not get service on your car without you being present.

Thanks... i figured it was something like that.

Yes, you get one free year.

They autoenroll teens turning 16 also. You get a free year. Then have to unenroll.

Yes, this is important- Triple A does not cover the car, it covers the person whose name is on the card. I paid for memberships for my kids as soon as they were at an age where they might be in cars with other people. That way, if something had happened, they could call for help even if they didn’t own the car.

Not true. If someone is driving your car and needs roadside assistance, YOU can call and have it serviced. I've done this for my nanny driving our car and having a flat or dead battery. We keep a copy of our card with the registration and insurance.

This should theoretically not work...if that was true..any time anyone you knew had car trouble you could get them a tow.
