3rd grader: Which ball and size?

Clueless mom here looking for advice on basketball to get for tall 3rd grader son who will be playing rec basketball this winter. I saw a lot of Wilson and Spaulding balls during tryouts. Any recommendations for which basketball to get?

It really doesn't matter for 3rd grade basketball. They will only use their own ball for practicing.

I am assuming your are talking about the size of the basketball. It sort of depends on the league whether you use a 27.5 or a 28.5. When I coached 3rd grade at Rec and CYO they each used a different sized ball and went with the bigger one for all games.

7th grade moves up to 29.5 size.

3rd grade usually starts using size 6 (28.5).

For a quality entry level ball, get the Wilson Jet composite leather.

For an extremely good ball without breaking the bank, get a Baden Elite.
