House &!Senate seats - best chance for defense

Anonymous
So here we are. What is the best strategy for seat gains? Which ones can we turn before 2028?
Anonymous
Nothing Dems can do will have more impact than the upcoming Republican clown show. Whenever those jackals get a bit of power, and don't have Democratic work to undermine, thet immediately turn to attack Americans and each other.

Remember Repeal&Replace? Remember when they couldn't even elect a Speaker of the House to start Congress?

Count those Senate votes again in WI and MI. Nevada too.

Best strategy is to sit back and give Republicans rope to hang themselves.

Not use the strategy the Dems used in 2024.

Where are the opportunities to flip seats to Dems in 2026? That's what needs to be a focus.

This! Republicans have been doing no governing for years. Just saying No to everything and mucking up progress. Not authoring viable legislation and wasting taxpayers time and money trying to undermine compromise and actual work. Democrats and Independents should do the same. When Republicans come up with ideas and compromise we can justifiable support great. Until then, the only job is to say No and look pretty and classy while doing it. Spend time molding up folks for 2026 and 2028.

Curiousity question: what kind of compromise would you actually support? Every time I've heard a Democrat talk about "compromise" it's basically "come 99.9% of the way to my position and we'll talk."

To be fair most Republicans mean the same thing when they say compromise.

How will Ds say no if Rs own the senate and potentially the house? We need to focus on a blue wave for 2026. What seats are opportunities??

The kind were republicans actually acknowledge they have to give up something. The kind were republicans don't get to stand on their chosen religion somehow making their idea more viable than everyone else. The kind where truth is actually noted and championed. The kind where we don't blow up hard fought deals because folks want a wedge issue to run for office on. Roe v Wade was the best compromise. If you want an abortion fine if you don't fine. Everyone gets the effective safe healthcare they need. And yet...

The kind where we acknowledge that it probably isn't good for the country in 2025 to have every state devising their own education rules, curriculum, standardized test, graduation requirements, etc., because we acknowledge that people move around and business can and does seek talent from greater distances.

To say the bolded is to show you that you really, really don't understand where the pro-life movement is coming from and haven't taken them seriously. I get that there are many in the movement who don't deserve to be taken seriously, so maybe it's those people's fault, but still. Maybe you should steelman that, and the education arguments on the other side.

And the pro-life movement you describe doesn't understand the medical realities of pregnancies and that sometimes, a woman needs an abortion to be able to live or have another baby in the future. See the problem?

The ONE bill that was an actual compromise bill over the last 4 years was immigration reform. It was authored by a conservative republican, the Dems didn't get nearly the things they wanted in it - analysts said it was titled 80% to the GOP in terms of policy, despite a dem senate and dem president and STILL the GOP opposed it.

The strategy is to moderate. Throw out the leftists controlling the party. If we do not do that very quickly there is no hope.

Nebraska, North Carolina and Maine are the only opportunities while Virginia, Michigan, Georgia, New Jersey and Pennsylvania have to be defended.

The party is going to have to decentralize and re-set.
