Don't feel baby moving

Anonymous
I am 24 weeks along. I feel a few nudges every couple of days, but not a whole lot of movement. Most of my friends at this stage feel their baby move every day, with some hearty kicks!

Should I be concerned?

A lot of things can affect what/how much you feel -- baby's position, where baby is lying, your body type. I don't remember what is "normal" for 24 weeks, but I wouldn't worry too much. Double check with your doctor/midwife.

If you are concerned, you should call your doctor right away.

When I went through the same thing, here's what I was told: Drink a glass of orange juice. Wait one hour. If you don't feel kicks within an hour, call the doc and let the doc take it from there.

But remember, every baby is different, it could just be the way the baby is positioned right now or it could be that the placenta is in the way and acting as a barrier to you feeling the kicks (as was the case with me at around 20 weeks).

My DS hardly moved at all the entire pregnancy. A few rolls here and there, but NOTHING that made me uncomfortable or startled. He was very sluggish in utero.

After he arrived he turned out to be the calmest well mannered little boy I could have ever wished for. He hardly ever cried as an infant, he is 2 and we can take him out to dinner, he has never destroyed a thing in the house, doesn't jump on furniture or bang things around, he will stay in one place when I tell him to, and his temper trantrums are very weak to say the least. He just knows how to behave (NONE to my credit as a parent, I do nothing special).

I was constantly worried when I was preggo that he hardly moved and the doc told me that he would have a calm and mild temperment as a child and she was 100% correct!!! Maybe you'll just have a chill little baby that will make you life super easy as a mom.

call your doc and have them do a sono. If you have an anterior placenta, you may not feel kicks as much as other women do.

Everyone is different, but if this amount of movement is typical on a day to day basis, it is most likely normal for you. If you are experiencing decreased movement, I would suggest calling your doctor. As a PP mentioned, I would also recommend doing kick counts if you are unsure. I think you're supposed to feel more than one in the hour though... can't remember. You can google it or ask your doc.

OP here-

Thanks to all who wrote. We just got back from having two sonograms (one at the doctor, one at a specialist immediately following.) All came out fine; she is just a chill baby at this stage. Measurements were fine, and we even have a cute picture of her sucking her thumb. She wasn't moving much, but the doctor said not to worry.

My husband and I are headed to a pretty remote island tomorrow, so wanted to be sure all was good. As soon as we got in the car, she started nudging around a bit.
