*** This is a post about soccer ** This is not a post about UVA tuition or law school or academic blah blah *** This is about soccer ***
UVA used to be such a powerhouse in Women's Soccer. Now, for the second year in a row they can't even make the ACC tournament. You have to scroll down to the Third Team all -ACC to find the one UVA player who made it at all. In 2023 - one girl - just one made the second team all ACC. UVA has more grad athletes on their roster than any other team (7) and they still can win games or win any NCAA accolades. Shouldn't the team been "stacked" or are the grads just holdovers? What has changed? The facilities? The scholarships - UVA gives out little money compared to Duke, Stanford, Michigan, Wake? NIL from other schools? How can this program get back on track? |
| Look at actual talent, what's in front of your eyes---not fancy pedigrees and politics. |
All programs have off years. There is not a single school who's got a neverending domination streak in sports for a decade plus. Injures or prospects not transitioning to collegiate level soccer is not uncommon, even programs like UVA. We can have this conversation in two years and talk about this being a real problem. |
But it's been years. Not AN off year. These aren't reasons ...because all schools have these same issues each year so relatively they are equal. Why can't uva rise above like all the others? |
UNC? |
And if all schools have these issues why aren't they are going downhill? |
Maybe it has been years since they won the ACC tournament but honestly they've performed pretty well aside from 2023. |
They haven't even made it to the tournament much less won it for years ! |
2023 was the only year they didn't make it to the conference or NCAA tournament recently. Where are you pulling this from? |
You are even forgetting this year! No ACC Where are you pulling your from?
|
| They still had someone on the USA Olympic team and most schools can't say that. |
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virginia_Cavaliers_women%27s_soccer Even if you account for missing both tournaments last year, and no ACC this year, the only real takeaway is that they're having a few off years or rebuilding currently. Theres no truth to them trending poorly yet. |
| I still don't understand why people are responding to this person trolling. Let the post die already it so easy to Google anything about their program and no this is all fake. |
| 2023 was a poor season for the Cavaliers as they finished 8–3–6 overall and 3–3–4 in the ACC to finish in seventh place. This was the first time in ACC Tournament history that the Cavaliers did not qualify. They also were not selected for the NCAA tournament, breaking the streak of twenty-nine straight appearances. Their eight wins tied for lowest in program history with 1986, their second year as a team |
Who the FK cares if they can't win anything? lol....goes back to the poster saying they care more about 'pedigree and politics' than what they actually can see with their eyes when selecting players. |
