Let's Get Some Movement on the Volleyball Waitlists

Anonymous
DD has received two offers and is still on the waitlist for her first-choice club. We just turned down one of the offers in hopes of dislodging something and getting the waitlists and new offers moving before 10 pm tonight. Please do the same if you are holding onto multiple offers. Pick the best one and let the other(s) go. We're first-timers, so maybe I'm overly optimistic thinking this post will help things, but it can't hurt, right?

Why are you eager to pay thousands or more to a club that doesn't want your daughter? Take one of the offers and go somewhere that she's likely to play

OP here. Because she got great training at the clinics she has attended in the past year and I’d like to see that continue with this club. I’m realistic and know that there are players who are better than my kid, and I’m not offended that she’s on a waitlist because I’ve seen the competition. And iif those kids are better, then they’ll pass up the spot that we are waiting on to play for a better team. Plus, isn’t it self-explanatory that the reach club is preferable to the safety club?

This post isn’t going to help. You can be hopeful but you are causing more stress for your family. Give your daughter a deadline where she has to pick something and move on. Go with the club that wants you. If a person declines at 9:59, your email isn’t going to be automatically generated anyway. We went through the same thing with my DD last Tues and it took her a couple of days to be happy with her choice. No, nothing else ever came in.

Do what's best for your kid. If she really wants the stretch club then wait and see what happens. Just be careful as you might not know whether she's off the waitlist before or even after 10pm, which would mean the other offer is potentially at risk if she's still wanting to wait to see how it plays out with the stretch club. Depending on what sort of relationship you have with both clubs, it could be worth talking to them to let them know where things stand, but that does carry some risk that the club she's holding an offer for would move on at 10:01 since they would know they were her second choice.

Last year we contacted the alternate club at 9:45 just to make sure…it was a no then we said yes. Seems logical. Of course you were right to let one go. But it’s ok to wait for the one you want.

I doubt the other posters are in your position.

Thanks 16:32. This is probably what we’ll do, but more like 9pm or 9:30. I think 9:45 is a bit too close for comfort.

If a kid gets an offer tonight at 9pm or 9:30pm at a makeup tryout what happens with the deadline? Are they expected to make a decision within 30 min or can they take a day to consider?

Also curious about the PP. DD has a low choice offer on the table but hopes to attend makeup tryout tonight. Then what?

Be ready to decide on the spot

Pretty much up to the club after 10pm tonight. The rules say "Offers can be made after the OPEN TRYOUT PERIOD without the expectation of a waiting period"

Does anyone know the answer to this question? I would think your low choice offer expires at 10pm tonight if you don't accept it. I think you could ask the makeup tryout club tonight if they will be giving offers before 10pm because you have a pending offer, right?

This is so inefficient.

Yeah, it may have been closer to 9:30. It’s a (sad) blur.
But this year went much better for her! Good luck!
