If this initiative passes and is enacted, if I understand this correctly, people who are registered as independents will be able to vote in the mayoral primary of either (both?) parties. Is this right?
If so, that is reason enough to support it. I would finally be able to change my registration to independent and still have a voice in the mayoral primary race. I would hate to die a registered Democrat. |
Not sure if you're trolling (probably are), but just in case you're not, it's correct that Initiative 83 would allow independent voters to vote in a primary of their choice (not both). The second part of the initiative is enabling rank choice voting where votes are reallocated according to a formula if no one in the race reaches 50 percent of the vote initially. If you vote yes on Initiative 83, you're voting yes on both things -- independents voting in the primary and the switch to ranked choice voting. |
Technically you're voting that you support those two things but the whole thing is conditional on the DC Council allocating funds for the changes...so nothing is likely to happen as a result of this vote. Current council members and mayor have no incentive to support this as it threatens Democrats chokehold on DC politics. |
Absolutely not trolling. I've "had" to live as a registered Democrat in DC for 15 years now, in order to have any voice in the single election that makes any difference here. (The Democratic primary for Mayor.) I enthusiastically voted YES on 83 and look forward to being freed from this moniker. |
DC Council sucks. |
| I voted yes. And yes, they suck. |
| Voted yes and the DC council sucks. |
| Not enough information provided to vote yes on such a drastic change. |
Yes, there was. Next. |
With DC demographics I don’t think anything can threaten Democrats chokehold on DC politics. It could threaten the control by the far left progressive wing of the party if the proposition is enacted and entices other candidates to run. |
DC Council sucking, Trayon White being reelected with 75% of vote, ATVs and criminals raging. I don’t know. Guy who sat in jail for a bribe running unopposed on the ballot. I reckon that was plenty of information. I voted Harris AND Prop 83 |
| 73% baby |
I voted for Harris and prop 83 too and I am ecstatic that at least the second passed. however, your "rayon White being reelected with 75% of vote, ATVs and criminals raging. Guy who sat in jail for a bribe running unopposed on the ballot" is very much in line with national politics apparently, since the nation just elected a convicted felons waiting for sentencing (and only because of corrupted judges he nominated he did not have more convictions, like in the Jack Smith case) |
| Tried to put him in jail I think. One should’ve cancel the other. |
Let’s put Trayon away for 20 years first and then move on to Trump |
