What type of high school? If it’s McLean or Langley it’s impossible

You’re assuming her kid is not any good with no basis, she’s asking how much an hour with a pro is. Why can’t people just answer her question?

$100+. Definitely depends on the HS. If your child goes to Churchill, not going to happen. Their 4th seed is an 8.20+ UTR, and their 1st seed is an 11+ UTR, which is D1 level and on the path to professional (if you don't know what that is, not going to happen). Wootton hard as well. If other HS in MoCo, they have a chance or can make as alternate if you start grinding now. Your child needs to start competing a LOT ASAP. Like yesterday. UTR and USTAs. Competing as much as possible gets them better, quickly.

11 utr on way to professional? Good one!

Yup, completely depends on the school or even year to year. I've played on our ladder with kids on the local high school team. The #1 is now playing d3 tennis, the #5/6 kids were total beginners.

$100/hr is a reasonable price for tennis in the DMV. Churchill, Wooten, McLean, and Langley HS kids on the varsity tennis team have been taking tennis lessons ever since they were little. Most parents in this pyramid have $$$ to support this. It is very difficult to crack the starting lineup, six starters in singles, in this pyramid because the roster is very small.

On the other hand, if you live in Falls Church, Justice, Lewis HS pyramid, you are almost guaranteed to make the top three on the varsity with very little tennis training.

+1. 11 utr is destined for d3 these days.

We've been looking at D1-D3 rosters, and while they are dominated by higher level Europeans, there are some lower-level Americans (11s) rostered in every Division. Not many, but it's not an impossibility. Look yourself! 11 in high school can shoot up at any point also, they an be a 13 by the time they graduate with the right tournaments.
