Amazing setter coach for girls volleyball

Anonymous
If anyone is looking for an amazing coach for private setting lessons- would highly recommend Emma Pettit. She is relatively new to the area so most people may not have heard of her. She is very technical- and is able to easily tell what the issues are whether your setter is a beginner, intermediate or advanced. We have seen this as we have taken group lesson with setter both more and less advanced than our daughter. The advice she gives- is very tailored to the player during the private lesson, though they may all be doing the same drill. Cannot recommend her enough!

What are her credentials? Former club player, coach at what club, etc?

She played at Villanova. She is new to the area. Her father is Terry Pettit who was the head coach for Nebraska from 1977-1999….. pretty sure she had good training.

She is not affiliated with a club team as she is a reporter and has irregular hours; so she is unable to make a commitment as a team coach. For those who are skeptical about her “lack of credentials as a coach” please feel free to email her with any questions.

Where is she located?

I believe she lives in/around DC so she can go to gyms in MD or VA. She knows of various locations that have gym availability- you can discuss the best options given your location.

Why only girls?
Pardon my ignorance.
My kid is one of the kids new to volleyball with the introduction of boys high school volleyball in FCPS.
Right now his athleticism (and maybe his soccer skills) help him get good positioning for setting but he knows nothing.
Is there a difference between girl's setting and boy's setting?

There are some differences because of the play speed and/or hand/finger strength between boys and girls. But should be OK at the young ages. DMV does need more good setter coaches.

So girls and boys are actually taught to set differently because of the way girls and boys play/hit. Of course there are many great male setter coaches who coach girls- but honestly, the female setting coaches are better for the more advanced setters as they understand the nuances better- girls vs boys setting.

I don't see anything in the original message suggesting that this was targeted to girls only.
