New/used car for family of 6

Anonymous
Need:
- seating for 6+ (2 adults and 4 kids)
- SUV (live in a rural area and need ground clearance and AWD)
- under $50,000

Nice to have:
- new but also open to 2019 or later
- hybrid

My last car was a 2020 Honda Pilot and I loved it but it's now gone from an accident. I have only ever owned Japanese cars. My coworker loves Kia so checking those out.

What do you drive and recommend?

I would get an explorer.

I also like Explorers, and the 3rd row is pretty good, IMO. If you need larger, try the Expedition.

There is a hybrid Highlander, I think, but I don't think the 3rd row is that great. I'm not sure if the Jeep Cherokee L has a 3rd row or not, but it may be something to consider sizewise.

Hyrbid Highlander here. It’s great. Great trunk space and mileage is very good. We don’t use the third row often but definitely there and still good trunk space with it up.

Oh man do NOT get a Kia.

Volkswagen Atlas. Lots of room for 7 people. Easy access 3rd row with decent amount of space.

These are well-priced for what you get, but I’d avoid if you intend to keep it long-term (7-10+ years), as VWs are unreliable and expensive to repair.

Hyundai has some great financing deals right now. Palisade would work for a family of 6

The Jeep Grand Cherokee L does have a third row and the size is great for you - we just got one and love it. But if you loved your last Pilot I’m not sure why you wouldn’t just get another one.

Just get another Pilot unless you really want a hybrid - and if you do, get a Highlander

2025 Chevy Traverse or 2025 GMC Acadia. Take a look they changed the model in 2024 and they are really roomy and nice

I own a 2022 Huyndai and a GMC Acadia Denali and the Hyundai although been great no problems my wife hates it as feels cheap
