Halloween Chocolate from Costco

Anonymous
What is up with snickers and Reese’s from the big Costco bag.

It tastes almost… fruity? But not in a good way, like spoiled fruit.

I’ve read a few different theories: fermented chocolate, undercooked chocolate, too much butyric acid, seepage between other fruit flavored candies.

Does anyone else see this, it’s quite unpleasant. Any idea what it is — i loved these candies in my youth but now I’m queasy to think of them. At least I won’t snack on kids haul for fear of hitting one of those…

I don't have the Costco bag. But in general, Reese's today are not the ones of my youth. They ruined Reese's about 15-20 years ago or so. They don't taste like peanut butter anymore.

I did not buy Costco candy. But the chocolate candy we handed out (snickers, Kit Kat, almond joy) tasted kind of gross. I thought it was my age/post menopausal self, but perhaps lower quality of ingredients is the reason. Need to get rid of the extras but maybe better to toss? It’s junk.

Do a blind taste test with same candy from other stores.

I got that bag and haven’t noticed this.

Ours didn’t taste like that. Maybe you got a bad batch. I will complain however that the Reese’s were minuscule. They were significantly smaller than a bag I bought elsewhere.

It's all disgusting. We have the supermarket big bags (the Hershey's caramel lover and some Reeses bag and some other Hershey's assortment). Not costco. Cocoa butter is actually listed as top ingredient but I don't believe it.

I stopped eating all that candy years ago because the chocolate tastes like oil. I have bags of Halloween candy from the kids sitting on the dining table right now, and haven't touched a piece of it because it all tastes gross. Great way to manage weight.

My kids are used to eating high end chocolate so they always give their Halloween candy away because they say it tastes bad. The fun is in collecting it, not eating it.

This, it’s just not very good. Yes, I still do decide to eat it once in awhile. But then I remember it’s kinda gross.

Ours tasted fine.

Same with me. I thought I lost my taste for chocolate, but really it’s because it’s all gone to crap.

The peanut m&ms tasted old, the kitkats were stale and the reeses in my Kirkland all chocolate bag tasted like mold. Am shocked that I handed this stuff out to kids.

COVID.

I think Costco's stuff is often stale. I bought a big box of oreos and they were terrible. They tasted very off. Sometimes their candy is the same.
