Dealer decals — how is this still a thing

Anonymous
We are buying a new car next week, and all their cars have a dorky dealer sticker on the back and the license plate cover. Many people leave them on their car.

Most people kind of want their cars to have a certain style, and car washes are always hopping, yet this garish adornments are on at least every other car?

And what the heck why is the decal a glued STICKER. It’s hard to remove and usually requires a hair dryer or solvent. It should be a magnet but of course dealers don’t want you to remove it.

I’ve seen only one dealer which had a tasteful tag (Landmark) where you could almost think it was a manufacturer badge like Hybrid or LX or what not. But most are huge with ugly fonts and off color and sometimes like a crown or balloon or something.

When you close the deal ask for it to be removed. If you want to avoid whining, ask for the dealer license plate frame instead.

We just tell the dealer no decals. I’ve never had them refuse.

This. I’ll never forget my dad telling the dealer (after 3 hours of negotiations) that if he came back the next day and a dealership decal was on the car, the deal was off. No down payment until he showed up to buy the car.

I have done the same thing for 3 new cars now and haven’t had them flip on me yet.

I walked out of a sale because I told DARCARS I didn’t want their little sticker medallion thingy on the car I was buying. I was adamant (but good natured - at first) and we went back and forth for about five minutes. Then they brought in two other men who were supposed to be managers or something. They said it was “the law” that the car had to have the dealer name on it”.

I got up and walked out without another word. It wasn’t even about the sticker at that point, but rather that they thought I was stupid enough to believe them.

I get rid of the dealer frame as soon as I get home. I also ask the dealer to remove their sticker.

I always ask for it to be removed or never placed on the car. Never had any issue and dealer was happy to oblige.

That is insanity. I would have lost it.

No license plate holder either. I’m not advertising for a dealer.

If they refuse say you want a discount. Tell them it’s your advertising fee.

Mine doesn’t have one? I didn’t have to ask. And it came with temporary tags, I put the tags on myself so it doesn’t have a holder. Fitzgerald.

Teslas are order direct from manufacturer

Just ask for them to be removed before you leave with the car. Did this, no problem, both the license plate frame and the sticker were removed (Herson's Honda)

Teslas have bigger problems that dealer decals.

We ask the dealer to remove it or not put it on and they always comply.

One car we forgot but my husband removed it in about an hour at home, same day.
