UWF

Hi, my kid is graduating from a FCPS high school, and she is looking for a school out of state. UWF is a consideration vs. trying Bama, as grandparents live in a condo in Pensacola.
How is UWF as an out-of-state student, living on campus, any experience?

It's not talked about much even in FL. We're applying to many FL schools but not that one. USF seems to be the preferred west coast school, and it really should be called UWF!

At UWF, 11% of students live on campus there, so the equivalent of half the freshman and none of the rest. 14% are out of state.

At University of Alabama, 28% of students (or all the freshmen plus a few more students) live on campus and 65% of students are out of state.

OP here, thank you. My concern was maybe University of West Florida (UWF), may feel out of place for someone out of state if most are from local high schools. Big football doesn't matter, but looking for campus involvement and feel, and at least able to attend college basketball games.

It's more of a commuter school, OP. I'm not sure your kid would get the campus involvement they are looking for. Have you considered Auburn?

Whoops, missed the obvious suggestion that is FSU. Not a bad drive from Pensacola--closer than Bama or Auburn.

Just briefly considered. I think it was University of Alabama because they had a free application. We did consider FSU, but I was thinking my kid may not would not have a decent shot since it's coming up as a much lower chance of admission (28%) with the school state (grades, test scores) than the other two I mentioned.
