accommodations for testing for 9th grade applicants?

DC is at a dyslexia specific private, and is hoping to switch to a supportive mainstream private. As part of that, does anyone know about whether he would be able to get extra time (slow reading speed) and be able to use a calculator (his dyslexia includes being terrible at memorizing math facts) for some of the different tests?

If you are asking about accommodations for in school, yes, most area mainstream schools offer standard accommodations if you have documentation to support them. I don’t know for sure about the calculator thing, that would be a question to ask. Extra time is standard. My dyslexic kid has accommodations including extra time, spelling doesn’t count, word banks for tests (hasn’t needed that one yet, but it’s there), computer use, and speech to text/text to speech. Most schools will not alter work loads or deadlines, but many teachers will offer extensions to students who ask in advance.

If you are talking about accommodations for standardized entry tests, you need to go to the test’s website and look up how to request and submit documentation. I would think your current school could help with that.

The testing like the HPST does offer accommodations. You have to give them a copy of your testing with diagnosis that shows they qualify. Also, the school has to give them your current accommodations.
