What should one expect after November 1 deadline for High School Applications?

Anonymous
Can someone shed some light on what can one expect after they select all programs that they were eligible for? This includes both Criteria based and Lottery based programs.
Will we receive one letter that indicate the program that DC is accepted into? Or will we receive one letter for each program that was checked off on the application?
How much time will one have to accept or decline?

If anyone can point us to relevant information on MCPS website that clarifies these questions that will be helpful.

Thanks in advance!

You get one letter in ParentVue with every program your student applied to listed and status (eg waitlist number, invited, etc). Last year letters came at end of Jan and had til mid Feb (about 2.5 weeks) to accept or decline per the official MCPS letter, though some programs gave a little extra time.

This is really helpful.

I have another question. Let us say if you are accepted in a program that is your DC's 3rd choice program and you are on wait pool or waitlist on your DC's 1st and 2nd choice program.
If your DC accept the 3rd choice program, will your DC be removed from wait pool/wait list for 1st and 2nd choice programs?

There are 10 or 11 programs and there are several scenarios such as the above one that could occur when you receive a letter. This will drive students crazy.

We wonder why MCPS makes it so difficult for children to pursue the programs that they would like to pursue based on merits and performance data.

If anyone can share their experience and how they tackled these situations will he helpful for other parents who are navigating this for the first time.

You can only accept one program that you're invited to, but you can remain on waitlists for other programs. If you end up getting accepted off the waitlist, you have to choose whether to take that spot or keep your original option.

Also, as the PP said there will be one letter in ParentVue that shows the outcomes for each program, but many programs also send individual emails with notifications. All the info usually comes out on one day in late January, but may not all be at the exact same time.

All of your questions are answered on the FAQ doc on the mcps website - you may want to read it over: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/curriculum/specialprograms/high

Did you all get "confirmation email with the subject line: Montgomery County Public Schools – Submission Confirmation of HS Common Application. Please go to your email to check for this email. This is your confirmation."

I submitted application last week; it has a green button submitted on parentvue but I have never received this email.

Thank you! Any idea whom I could email to check if my child's application was submitted? Any other ideas what I could do?

Because there are only so many program spaces and a lot more students. This is good practice for students and you for what college application and decisioning could be like.

This isn’t really that difficult. You apply. If you’re accepted you decide if you want to attend. If you’re waitlisted you decide if you want to remain in the waitlist pool.
If you’re accepted somewhere and waitlist somewhere else, again tou decide if you want to accept and/or remain in waitlist pool.

There is a green check, and it says submitted. The date is accurate (24/10). It looks fine but now I am worried that I didn't receive this email which they call "your confirmation". And others seem to have received the relevant email.

This page shows "Grade 8 High School Regional and Countywide Programs Timeline 2024- 2025" and "Grade 9-11 Part-Time High School Regional and Countywide Programs 2024-2025 Timeline"

Does students go through this application process every year in HS?

NO. I submitted the application today, got the confirmation email, and then an hour later got an email saying go finish the application, it has not been submitted yet. The application is showing as submitted on the website, so I am guessing it was on the list of unfinished applications at some point prior and they just didn’t remove it in time for some mass mailing.
