| Does anyone have kids at both Gonzaga and SJC? If so what made you choose each? And how do you compare them? |
|
Well, in many cases, if a family has a daughter they can't send her to Gonzaga obviously.
Some children really, really prefer co-ed environments. SJC is Catholic but less "in your face about it" than Gonzaga. SJC is less academically rigorous than Gonzaga. SJC has a more lax and fun social atmosphere than Gonzaga. |
|
^^There are rigorous academic paths at ALL the Catholic high schools.
Find the fit that works best for child, and let them lead the way without parental (or friend) influence. We have a lot of great options in the DC area! |
| Yes there are plenty of us. Not just those with girls who couldn't go to GZ. Start with a shadow day. That will tell you a lot about where your child would like to go. |
There was a fun article in the Post on this a year ago: https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2023/10/26/these-rival-runners-are-especially-close-theyre-twins/ |

Another with kids at both, but DD goes to SJC and DSs at Gonzaga.
I know a few families with boys at both schools. Why Gonzaga for sons? We had more friends at Gonzaga that talked up the school as we started looking at HSs. Loved the Jesuit mentality there. Seems to have better school spirit. Great networking. We have been very happy with SJC. DD learned about it as their older sibs were going through the process and decided that the school was their fit over a single-gender or our diocesan option. |
| It broke my H heart but yea came down to the shadow day and experience with the Mater Dei kids in middle school. |
| I know families with sons at Gonzaga and daughters at SJC. Logistics seems to be the hardest thing. Both schools have several paths so seems to be a place for many kids to thrive. My boys at Gonzaga and we love it. They have friends from their k-8 at SJC honors program and seem happy. I can’t imagine sending brothers to both, though. |
| I posted before about having kids at both. It was the march on before the SJC/GZ football game that made my second go to SJC. We were at GZ (in purple) to watch the game and he saw that. Decision was made. So you just never know OP. Both great fits for our kids. |

Oldest - a girl - chose SJC because of the Benilde program. She needed that additional support.
Younger brother fully expected to attend SJC. But then toured Gonzaga and it just clicked for him. They are very different kids academically and socially and both found their right fit. |
Bull on Gonzaga being more academic. I know and have experienced both. |
SJC is more of a party school for less academic kids. It's also often a second choice if not admitted to the upper tier Catholic schools like Visi, Stone Ridge, Prep and Gonzaga. It also has more of a drinking/drugs culture - it's not a place I would send a kid who had mental health issues or the propensity to be a follower (more likely to do drugs and drink). |
Gonzaga is not a party school at all. Okay, you. And SJC is less academic. I better inform the recent SJC grad that his admittance into MIT is fake because pp says it’s “less academic.” |
You know boys at GZ party, right? A LOT |
Who comes up with these weird untrue stereotypes. There are kids that party at all the school |
