baby monitors - which one should i get?

am considering the video monitor or the breathing monitor since I am a neurotic mom.....but am open to other suggestions and to being steered away from the sids monitor...

We have a video monitor and love it. Definitely much better than just the audio ones. I've read that the breathing monitors give off false alarms a LOT, so would see to give you more heart attacks rather than piece of mind. We also slept with the baby in our room the first few weeks when i was most paranoid about her stopping breathing.

We also have a video monitor-my husband told me it's the best purchase I made when I was pregnant. We watch him while we're relaxing in front of the TV-keep it in a cental place.

Agreed - the alarmed breathing/movement/SIDS monitors are ridiculous. We have a video monitor as well since my husband is a worry-wart. He loves it and I must admit that I do too. Seeing is believing!

We have a video monitor from "Summer." It's a small portable tv that allows you to turn the volumn on and off and has diff channels, in case one of them interferes with your phone. There's a mini pod you put on the edge of the crib or can mount to a wall and it is has an infered light..does not disturb baby at all. We bought it at Babies R us for $100 and it is worth every penny!

We have the "Summer" video monitor like the PP - I love it. It has 3 channels so that if something (wireless service, phones, ect.) are interfering on one channel you can switch - I highly recommend it.

Kinda like Blair Baby Project! My charge stands up in the crib and looks directly into the camera. She is awfully bright she saves her tears for important matters! Its awesome if you worry a lot. My boss often looks tired because with the Summer monitor you hear the music playing the baby moving around etc. If you are a light sleeper try one that is voice activated.

Have the Summer video monitor and it is totally worth the money. Our baby grunts a lot and makes lots of noises so I love to just switch on the screen and see if she is actually awake or not. And it's also great for those random "is she breathing" checks.

Why are they ridiculous?

Another vote for the video monitor! We have the one from Summer with the 7" flat screen LCD. Aside from the swing, this is hands down the best money we spent.

If you live in a small home-you don't need a monitor. We had an audio only one and rarely used it. We could hear the baby crying from every room in our house. I personally think the video monitors are a novelty. Another "must-have" baby product making some lucky bastard $$$$$$.

i agree with PP - I don't feel we really got the use out of ours, and lived in a pretty big house. The line was 'buzzy' and you could hear the baby himself much clearer!

Agreed-we received a video montior and it was fun for a few weeks. Now we rarely use it. During the day, our 2 month old is sleeping downstairs.

We think that the video monitor is the greatest thing ever! Especially when our son was a bit older, we could see what he was doing -- just making noise or up and about? It helped us leave him alone when he was just stirring so he learned to put himself back to sleep.
