Hi, our 9th grade daughter was diagnosed with autism this summer and I'm feeling out of my league to know how to approach some basic parenting with the ASD lens. (She also has ADHD and anxiety, so she is a wonderfully imaginative and creative teen girl with deep feelings who is also a social justice warrior, to a fault, and fits the definition if inflexible perfectly!)
She has an amazing neurodiversity-affirming therapist, who is also helpful to us in some ways, but I'm trying to find a parenting expert that understands ASD that can help coach my husband and me. We want to be able to provide our daughter with the right balance of "accommodation" and loving pushes, for example. At any rate, does anyone have recommendations for resources/coaches for helping parents with ASD teen girls? |
| I know some parents who receive this help from their child's therapy practice. The provider assigned to the parents is a different provider than the one assigned to the teen. |

Maybe Sarah Wayland https://guidingexceptionalparents.com/about-us/
We have used her for school related help but her website lists coaching and ASD is one of her specialties. |
| This is 11:57. I like Sarah Wayland. If you can't get in with Sarah, you could try Raising Orchid Kids. I've met Gabriele Nicolet and Jen Dryer and I liked them too. |
| Thank you! I saw that they are running a parenting teens support group that just started this week -- giving it a try! |

Are you open to meeting online? If so, I recommend Rebecca Barry. She has worked with children with autism throughout her career and has a compassionate understanding of what children and their families experience. She also works with both neurotypical adults and adults with developmental disabilities. Rebecca explained to me that she got into parent coaching because she is interested in family systems and providing a holistic approach to supporting children. I think she strikes a great balance between kindness and firm boundaries.

We have worked with Christina https://www.kaleidoscope-arttherapy.com
She is great, developed her own workbook for parents, etc. Good luck |
