I'm looking for a really great blender. I am so sick of blenders that don't completely crush the ice for smoothies and other frozen drinks. Please tell me the brand and model of your blender if it has glass or stainless (no plastic) container and if it's really, really, really strong. I know I may have to spend for this - I'm happy to do so. I just want a great blender
Thanks! |
| I run a few smoothie shops and we use Vita Mix in all 700 of our stores across the country. Might be more than what you are looking for but it's certainly a great blender. |

We have the Kitchenaid 5-Speed Blender. It was the winner of the Cooks Illustrated blender test and crushes ice like a dream. My smoothies are delicious now. Plus, the entire jar is one piece (blades cannot be removed), so it's super easy to clean. I LOVE IT.

| PP here with the Kitchenaid blender. It does have a polycarbonate jar, which was the one drawback for me, because I was so accustomed to glass jars. I actually prefer the polycarbonate now because it's so much lighter. |

PP here again - This is their second place blender and it has a glass jar. Plus, it's only $40! Their review says it's an excellent ice-crusher.

| 9:34 here. I bought the KitchenAid blender that 10:39 has after reading the Good Housekeeping reviews. I found it for $99 at Best Buy a few weeks ago. I would not want a glass jar, too heavy. I love this blender! |

OP here. I bought the Oster blender recommended by Good Housekeeping (thanks to PP who posted that link) and so far so good! It has the glass container (I am a freak about plastic) but it's very light - much lighter than the glass jar of our former big name (but sucked) blender. The Oster in stainless and glass was $40 at BB&B, minus 20% coupon so only $32. We made the smoothest smoothies today, and it did a great job blending leek and potato soup tonight. We decided for the money, we can hardly go wrong, and we'll see how long it lasts. If need be, I'll get one of the high-end ones, but this one seemed like a good bet, so we're giving it a go.
Thanks very much to all who responded! |

DH makes smoothies every other day for breakfast with ice and frozen fruit. We have the Kitchen Aid that pp mentioned and it has been great. I broke it once and even though it was technically out of warranty, Kitchenaid replaced it for free and free shipping. Also, like pp said, the polycarbonate is so much lighter than glass. My mom has a glass blender and it comes apart in 4 pieces for cleaning and it's really heavy. Plus, you can't set it down like a pitcher when it's off its base, but you can with the kitchenaid.
We got ours at Macy's on sale for $99, usually $120. |
