How do your kids remember they have tests?

7th grader keeps forgetting she has tests until the night before, and often only remember when i remind her. (Tonight for instance she remembered she has one tomorrow- the teacher told them Thursday so with a block schedule tomorrow is the next class).
Part of me thinks she should suffer natural consequences but id rather give her good strategies to use. What system do your kids use to remind themselves they tests? |

| Our school (also block schedule) has an online system and teachers are really good about putting everything in there in middle school. Student just looks in the online LMS for everything. |

| We check DS’s grades/schedule each day and ask him if he has anything coming up. If he says no and we know differently, we suggest he check his school account. So far there has only been one “surprise” test in 7th grade. He does have a daily planner but he has not really used it. We are encouraging him to use it now and get in the habit before he really needs it in a few years. |

| Our school gave all the kids a planner. DS (6th grade) writes down all homework and tests in the planner for each date. It helps him a lot. |

Consequences may motivate, but won’t teach skills that she doesn’t have!
I spent a good deal of the 7th grade year with my oldest sitting down several times a week (regularly scheduled) to look through assignments and make a color coded calendar for each week with assignments, test, etc., including times to study for each test. It was mostly me leading and DC following my suggestions, but it taught the discipline of time management |

| I started to print out entire year monthly calendar (11 psges, August-June, you can also buy but it’s easier to write in black & white rather than colorful design) for DD 7th grader since she’s 5th grade ( they were asked to buy school assignment pad but she never used it). DD’s able to write down test and other things during each class, to remind herself have enough time get study or assignment done. |
