This is what the internet is for. Go to some reliable academic sites and find out. For example, I'm sure the Holocaust Museum's site could give you the answer to #3.

Answer to #10: Postmodernism

For the short term, consider Wikipedia. You might get a book on 20th century history. Also, consider the fact that one's viewpoint on what the settlements are is a political question. It's not objective fact. Similarly, how Bangladesh became its own country and what Vietnam was really all about are charged issues and you need to read more than one viewpoint.

Is OP looking for answers or seeking lists of what others do not know?

I think this is a troll joke because no one can be this ignorant.

Oh shut up. I don't know how the stock market works. I don't know WTF a black hole is. How the hell do radar waves work? Nobody knows everything. The folks who recognize the fact that they have much to learn will go forward. The jerks who think they know everything and no one can tell them anything will die alone and unloved. At least I know that much.

Wanna bet? Many Americans are as ignorant as this poster claims to be. But it probably is a troll because ignorant people don't want to learn anyway, and certainly wouldn't make a list of issues they think they ought to know.

I can help with planets:
Mercury
Venus
Earth
Mars
Jupiter
Saturn
Uranus
Neptune.

FWIW, growing up I never understood why people laughed at the name "Uranus." Took me years to get the joke.

A co-op preschool requires parents of the students to contribute time to the school in various capacities such as helping the teachers from time to time in the classroom and helping to clean the classrooms once or twice a year. Some require more time then others.

I don't know if I can get used to the fact that Pluto is no longer a planet.

Yep, Pluto is no longer a planet.

Also, brontosaurus (remember brontosaurus burgers from the Flintstones?) no longer is a name of a dinosaur. It is now apatosaurus. There are also rumblings these days about triceratops and whether it is actually a different type of dino (taurosaurus).

I've lived in DC most of my life and I have no clue how the US gov't works. I don't get the difference between Congress and the Senate, how bills get passed...

I'm so embarassed. This thread has inspired me to read US Gov't for Dummies, or the like.

I have no idea how I made it through private high school, a top university, and law school without this basic knowledge.

There. I said it.

This definitely seems like a long list of big don't knows that in general, I feel, are descriptive of your stereotypical, ignorant American. I'm constantly amazed at how little educated Americans in general understand about the world, versus educated Europeans, Latin Americans, etc.

Agree that a quick wiki check could give you quick answers that may motivate you to learn more, if you were interested.

Congress = The House + the Senate
The Senate: two from each state = 100
The House: 435 from all 50 states based on a state's population.
Bills: Introduced in each side of Congress, if they are not identical they go to a conference committee with members from both the Senate and the House where they resolve the differences.
Bills are introduced at committee level, if they do not pass the committee, they die.
That's it.
It's really that simple.

5. Islam.

There is only one God, and Mohammad is his (last) prophet.

If you feel like reading a really cool (and straightforward) book on it, "Muhammad" by Karen Armstrong is great.
