WSJ Singles Out Appeal of McLean/22101

Anonymous
Will make the heads of some DCUM posters explode, but the WSJ ran an article this week noting that McLean/22101 is the DC area's most expensive zip code.

The article is behind a paywall but a few snippets:

"With high-end houses, including historic estates, McLean has long attracted those who want easy access to D.C. but don’t want to live full time in D.C. proper. Recently, McLean’s proximity to the burgeoning business hubs of Tysons, which is an offshoot of McLean, and the Dulles Technology Corridor has further burnished its appeal. As such, with a median home listing price of $2.95 million in September 2024, McLean’s 22101 ZIP Code has the D.C. area’s priciest residential real estate, according to Realtor.com.

“People say real estate is all about location, location, location,” says real-estate agent Robert Hryniewicki of Washington Fine Properties. “That really rings true for ZIP Code 22101.”

It seems not a big surprise for being expensive zip code.

More expensive doesn’t make it better.

Yes, it is easy access to D.C. There literally is only 1 red light on our commute into D.C. It’s a 16 minute commute from home to parking garage in D.C.

It’s the combination of being between DC and Tysons and being zoned mostly for larger homes that makes it so expensive.
