What are you paying teen babysitters?

We’ve never hired a teen before but our neighbor’s DD is going to sit for us this weekend. She’s an 8th grader, so 13? 14? We didn’t discuss price, she’s coming over tonight to meet our DS2. I tried Google and it suggested the going rate is $15-$20 an hour for a teen sitter?

I don't hire teen sitters but I wouldn't pay more than $13-$15 with a 3/4 hr minimum for that age.

Depends on if it’s a high demand night like around the holiday season. Many teens are busy with school and extracurriculars, so getting them to say yes to a sitting gig requires some incentive. In the DC area, $20 minimum.

$15 and I hire high schoolers. Dcum always says $20 but I’m out in the burbs. My kids don’t want a college or daycare teacher, they like the fun high schoolers.

$15/hr for three kids. And I have plenty of takers.

My 12yo gets $10 per hour now for one 4yo as a Mothers Helper. I would think at 13 when she can legally babysit with this experience she could charge $12-$15 per hour.

We actually have an adult driving sitter for her once a week because she needs dropping off at sports while we’re still at work. We pay that person ( she’s 19) $20 an hour with a 3 hour guarantee.

$10 if this is her first gig. If she is good and reliable then $12/hr after six months.

Would depend on the gig. More than one kid = more money. Younger kid in diapers = more money for having to change and bathe.
Could substitute perks like free food while they are there for extra pay.

why would a sitter have to bathe your kid? You do it, not a sitter!

Who said have to? If it's part of the job it is part of the job so price accordingly.
Quit trolling with ridiculous questions.

at that age one kid? 12-15 an hour. signed, mom of 5 kids with extensive babysitting usage

$15

It’s the going rate for my 14 year old and her friends. When it’s less and the parents are fumbling around doing math, the teens hate it.

Assuming it’s an easy job (elementary school age kids, no major food/prep or cooking, etc) I think their age/hour is fine, but I live in a neighborhood with a ton of sitters so I don’t need to “hang on” to one the way you might in some areas. I overpaid a teen sitter once (very last minute ask so I felt like I should overpay) and the sitter’s mom was upset that I paid too much. In normal circumstances for my easy kids I would never pay a young teen $20/hr.
