Going to pickleball tournament.. what to wear?

I’m going to a pickleball tournament for my work. What should I wear? Would you go out and buy specific tennis shoes or are new balances ok?
Anonymous
Court shoes would be ideal, but if you’re not going to play regularly, probably not worth buying.

just wear a your normal workout clothes and shoes

A pickleball tournament is where a a 67 year old driving a Tesla parks in the middle of two parking spaces, and stands around on a tennis court yelling "oohh yeah! I got you!" while his heartrate gets to about 102.

May the best boomer riffraff win!

You couldn’t be more wrong. Have you seen it lately?

Court shoes are a must. 99% of injuries are due to wrong shoes, b.c court shoes help with lateral movements and have better traction. Most injuries are from wearing leisure shoes or running shoes - ankles give out, people slip... especially when trying to move backward.

That would be even more embarrassing if you're younger and play pickleball.

You do need tennis shoes, not running shoes, but they don't need to be fancy.

Yes, and by “tennis shoes” we mean actual tennis/court shoes. There’s a generation that calls all “sneakers” tennis shoes.

You don’t need to go out and buy new shoes for the minimal time you’ll be playing. Just wear any athletic shoe you have. If this is your first time playing you’re not going to,be sprinting across the court. You’ll be standing around a lot. Don’t waste your money on new shoes.

If you have sneakers other than running shoes, wear those. Running shoes will work but they really aren’t built for lateral movement.

Depends on what you value. If you have the right shoes, you are less likely to fall and injure yourself. They don't have to be expensive, just made for tennis instead of running.

This person has never played. Running shoes are fine. What a complete waste of money to buy new shoes. They aren't going to win the tournament. Movement will be minimal.
