Dressing up joggers

Any tips on how to make dressier joggers look appropriate for a family event? For reasons that are not going to change I do let my teen wear nicer joggers (as opposed to dress pants) – think vineyard vines – to events but wondering if your son does the same what he wears on top when it’s not Sweater Weather?

He’s doing something like this when it’s cold – but just doesn’t look right without the sweater on top usually

My son wears button up shirts--usually a plaid or print in a lightweight flannel or cotton (similar to the one the man is wearing in the pic below). If it's really chilly, he'll wear a crewneck sweater or a quarter-zip sweater over the shirt. Check J Crew for style ideas.

he also needs vans type shoes instead of running shoes.

Also if you are looking for pants to help a joggers only wearer to transition to "dress" pants try lulu lemon or golf pants. They are performance pants and they stretch and feel like joggers. It's worth the $100, and my kids wore the same one for years.

Boys past 2nd grade should not be wearing joggers to any sort of public thing beyond hanging out with friends. (I feel the same way about girls and leggings, so don’t come at me)

This is a great suggestion. My DS has a few of these performance pants and really likes them. I also like them better than joggers in situations where he needs to wear dressier pants.

This is a great suggestion. My DS has a few of these performance pants and really likes them. I also like them better than joggers in situations where he needs to wear dressier pants.

Lands end has some performance pants (in khaki) that are pricy but my kid loves them

I'm more curious about what the "reasons I'm not going to change" are.

It really blows my mind that you guys can’t get your kids to dress appropriately when the occasion requires. If there is a disability at play or some a sort issue at play, then I understand. But this is part of growing up and conforming when expected. I will never understand.

NP yes my kids have sensory issues … socks were like the 3 rings of he!!

I’m glad your kid likes these but I’m the lulu poster and they wouldn’t wear those. The legs are too wide.
