Recommendations for Math Learning Platforms for my 5-Year-Old son

Anonymous
Hi everyone! I'm looking for effective and engaging math learning platforms for my 5-year-old son. He enjoys interactive and fun activities that make learning enjoyable. Can anyone recommend some platforms or resources that have worked well for their children?

Start by playing lots of games with him. Try to teach him Set, Backgammon, Mastermind, Abalone. The games build logic skills and help with mathematical thinking, recognizing patterns, etc.

Then there's a resource called Beast Academy that has books and an online platform. It's geared for kids starting as young as 6 year olds, though.

My kids loved Puzzle Mania and Puzzle Buzz. Try to limit the screens. I know it's hard, but try.

I was homeschooling my child for kindergarten. We found some really fun workbooks on Amazon for math.

Just to clarify, I was homeschooling that year because of covid and online school for kindergarten was horrible.

I recommend IXL myself but it is not "fun" per se. It is good for allowing involved parents to understand their child's ability level and choose units for their child to work on.

One "fun" resource to avoid is the math video game - Prodigy. It doesn't have enough math in it.

There are lots of threads on Art of Problem Solving/Beast Academy/Russian Math.

Go to regular Google and type in dcurbanmom and the keyword and that will be the best way to find the old threads.

I would rather my dc be behind in math than spend time on devices. There is no reason to push a 5yo on math. He should be spending his time playing and enjoying. If you feel he is behind, buy some workbooks online and work with him.
