Thoughts on Yuval Noah Harari

He's written a lot of bestselling history books including Sapiens. But he gets criticized for the following: 1) too simplistic/pop history, 2) being anti-religion.

What do people think of Harari?

I read Sapiens. I was pretty fascinated by the first half or so of the book, when he was talking about the ancient past and humans. But when he got into topics that were relatively more recent I was annoyed and not buying a lot of his assertions. And that made me wonder if I would have felt the same way about what he said about the ancient past if I knew more about it.

The religion stuff didn't bother me. I grew up in a religious Protestant family, but haven't gone for years now and am not raising my kids in a church. So I kind of agreed with his assertions.

It all felt like opinion though, not very scholarly.
