Seeking recommendations for a preschool program for a 2 year old within 25 minute commute to Centreville. Ideally Chantilly, Herndon, Reston, McLean, Fairfax, Vienna could work. |
In McLean/Tysons:
Country Day on Georgetown Pike Brooksfield School on Kirby Lewisville Montessori in Great Falls St(*) Montessori School of McLean in Kirby *Rents its classroom/playground space from Fairfax County. A different school also rents space in the same building. |
Thank you so much! I will check them out. |
Dolly Madison Preschool.
I would classify Lewinsville as more of a daycare center. |
They have a full Montessori curriculum starting age 2. Most 3 year olds learn letter, Numbers and Phonics. Most 4 yr olds are reading. Daycares do not do those things. It is daycare for the infants. They are a 12-month full-day program, with lots of free play in the afternoons, which also might be what PP is thinking about. The 12-month aspect is a feature for many families. |
Most daycares follow a curriculum, like the Creative Curriculum. Most preschools and daycares are not teaching 4 year olds to read. Frankly, many kids are not ready to read at that age and there isn't much advantage to pushing it, and some potential disadvantages. https://www.boredteachers.com/post/learning-to-read-too-early-might-be-counterproductive |
When someone says preschool/not daycare - I interpret that as a part-time program.
|
I'm confused - do you mean like a mommy's day out program? |
Fiore Montessori in Vienna. They have 2 campuses with Toddler (16 months to 3 years) communities and run through 9th grade if you wanted to continue. |
Pre school for a 2 year old? Ok then. |
How does a 2 year old go to “school”? They’re alll daycares no matter what the marketing says. |
Right like 2 hours/2 days a week for a 2 year old. |
Many churches have part-time preschools. My kids went to Christ Presbyterian Preschool in Fairfax. They have 2 day and 3 day options. |
Montessori School of Oakton, which is actually located in Fairfax. They will sometimes take 2 year olds that are developmentally ready for preschool. My child has thrived here. |
St. Charles in Arlington used to (may still?) have a two-year-old program, if that distance works for you. |
