I'm finding that I really enjoy reading essays. I've read collections by Ann Patchett, Rebecca Solnit, James Baldwin, Roxane Gay, Mary Beard, and Anne Fadiman. I just started Edwidge Danticat's new collection which is fabulous. Any other suggestions for essayists to seek out?

E.B. White's essays are an absolute treat.
I highly recommend One Man's Meat or Essays of E.B. White. |

Thanks for starting this thread. I just tagged the following essay collections on Libby. Will report back:
The Givenness of Things, by Marilynnne Robinson Farther Away, by Jonathan Franzen Upstream, by Mary Oliver |

Lindy West
(and yes indeed to the EB White recommendation) |
Awful writer. Best avoided. |
omg no. Hsndmaid's tale was brilliant but she just lost it over Trump and subsequent books and essays are not worth reading. No, I'm not Trumper but an intellectual with broad reading habits. And she's Canadian. She's lost all credibility within academia |
| Read Roald Dahl's short stories if you want quality |
What??? I love Marilynne Robinson's novels. |

Some are a blend of cartoons and essays, I particularly like "The Pain -- When Will It End?" and "We Learn Nothing" I also love reading Mimi Smartypants https://mimismartypants.com |
