Grocery list system

We still use the old fashioned pad of paper and pencil that sits by the fridge. All of our family members (parents and teens) write items on it. Both parents shop depending on who has more time (we don’t do grocery delivery). We shop at several different stores and buy things at different places depending on price, preferred brand, etc. I usually have one grocery store list (to be purchased at giant, the commissary, or Whole Foods) and one Costco list, but they sometimes overlap.

How do I simplify this????
I feel like we need a way to designate items needed now vs “next time you go to whole Foods pick up . . . “
Plus because we both shop we end buying a lot of duplicates that sometimes get used but sonn my tunes expire or go bad.

Is there an app? Do you share a google spreadsheet? Just share a note through iPhones?

I'm sure there are. That's a great way for corporations and government to watch and spy on your diet choices.

Free marketing research they can use and sell.

I am 100% a shill for the Paprika app. You can upload recipes and synch them with your recipe list. Every member of the family has the app and can add any groceries they want. I don’t know why it’s not more popular.

I keep a list for each grocery store on my iPhone notes. I’m the only one who usually does the food shopping so it’s easy for me to keep track.

Do you have an Alexa? We all (I have teens) add items to the lists which I can look at on my phone. We shop at Costco, Safeway and Target (toiletries). My kids are pretty good about saying which list to put items on. I do a quick review before heading out. It is really easy.

We use OurGroceries as an app on our phones. For things that are needed immediately from whatever the next grocery run is, that goes on the Grocery list. For “items I can only get at Trader Joe’s” or “look for this next time at Costco”, we have specific lists for those stores. I do check both lists for the store I’m going to so I don’t miss anything.

I do this too, each store has a iPhone list with checkmark for items needed that run.
The rest of family uses Walmart app for weekly grocery pick up.

Same. Both dh and ds have access to my account and can add items to the list or remove them if they’re bought. It works really well for our family. I have Luddite tendencies and was reluctant to give up the paper list we had on the fridge, but this works so much better.

I like the idea of OurGroceries! We'll try it out. Thanks!

Me too! Then I don’t have to worry if I forget my paper list haha

You can share editing in notes.

My college kids use Walmart app and Amazon Whole Foods app for their groceries on campus

I actually like paper. I can just put it in the cart and see it without having to have my phone out. Old school I know. Forgetting it is an issue!

Same large piece of paper not small notepads with walmart, giant, aldis headlines on it, whatever stores you go to then add under each name. Very easy. If you have a huge family maybe you will need two sheets of paper but for us one does it.

We use the remind function and have a tab for groceries. All 4 of us can add to it.

We have pre-printed lists that we made with the items we often buy, split up into categories. So we just circle things as they run out.

We have another list for specialty store items like WF or TJs.

We have a Google doc.
Everyone adds to the list
Whoever gets to the store picks up and updates list.
